"Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Campaign in San Diego
Last Friday, San Diego police cracked down on driving under the influence by setting up a downtown checkpoint. Officer Mark McCullough stated that his goal was to let people know that "drinking alcohol and driving do not mix." The checkpoint was made possible by funding from UC Berkley. It's part of a national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which main goal is to bring publicity and public awareness of DUI's through checkpoints like this.
Over a total of 1,900 cars passed the checkpoint. It started around 10 p.m. and ended around 3 a.m. In total, 12 people were arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence.
